*What is Psychotherapy? Many
individuals are afraid of therapy and think it is going to be intrusive and
frightening. A skilled therapist helps the patient understand that it is an
educational process to insight, awareness, understanding*,
interpretation, associating the issues/obstacles leading to resolution.
Psychotherapy can be individual, group,
couples, or family. Making couples and family group educational and fun is
the goal.
Goals/outcomes: Self-validation with
energy/courage/strength/determination to made change happen. Example tobacco
cessation or abstaining from opiate abuse. Another example is anger
management, i.e., learning to express feelings appropriately/acceptably.
*understanding relationships, cause and
effect, resolution, etc. and even understanding the chemistry of the brain
and how the brain works. How the prefrontal lobe of the brain can be causing
processing problems in children and adults. Is the activity of the
prefrontal lobe too slow or too fast? This deregulation can be corrected.
Psychobiological: This is psychological
issue(s) as it/they relate to the biological/physical/medical problems.
Psychodrama: Practicing or rehearsing
special references to presenting symptoms
What is a 504 Accommodation Plan?
It is mandated by federal law for children and adult with a disabilities....
it is part of the Disabilities Act ... it occurs in all states in the USA.
504 Accommodations particularly helps those with AD/HD where they many need
extended time on FCATs or any test, special seating away from distractions,
shortened assignments, tutoring, etc.
*What is a MacKay Scholarship? It is
Florida funded scholarship which allows children to be enrolled in a private
school where there is more consideration given to individual learning
according to the child's skill level and rate of learning. Children who are
in ESE special education programs or who have been diagnosed with AD/HD or
Bipolar or Anxiety (school refusal, for example) are eligible.
